Hello Fabulous Readers,
I know it has been a long time since I sent out a newsletter. I wanted to give you an update on what’s going on in my life and with my books.
I’m not sure if many of you know I am from Houston, TX and recently experienced first-hand Hurricane Harvey and now the devastation of the aftermath. I can say I’m so blessed that my family and I remained dry during the storm. I cannot say the same for my small community of Friendswood. Over 3500 homes in our community are underwater, and many of my neighbors and friends have lost everything.
Here is a video of Friendswood that will give you an up-close look at what occurred.
My heart is heavy wanting to help. I physically cannot leave my house, at this time, due to a major surgery I had a few days before the storm. One way I can do my part is by reaching out to you, my readers and by organizing collection drives locally.
I know many of you would like to aid in the effort to rebuild Houston and the surrounding area. Listed below are organizations, charities, and funds where 100% OF YOUR DONATIONS will go to the families and communities that were devastated by Harvey. Please be aware; many organizations give less than 15% of your donations to relief efforts.
Donate to Friendswood – This is a Facebook page created to help the families in Friendswood directly. It is a collection of gofundme.com, Amazon wish lists, youcaring.com pages. These are family specific listings. Many of the families I know personally, and they had to leave their homes in a matter of minutes with only the clothes on their backs.
The Harbor Hurricane Harvey Fund – This is the direct link to my home church’s efforts to help the victims of the storm.
Personally, I am collecting gift cards to take to the families in Friendswood. These gift cards are to help purchase basics, like underwear, hygiene goods, and food. If you would like to contribute to this effort, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, and I will send you my address. The types of cards I’m collecting are for places like Walmart, Target, HEB, Kroger, etc. I promise give the gift cards only to those who need it most.
